a Letter from Harry Sterling photo of Harry Sterling

Hello,

I’m writing to announce that I will retire this November from HP.  I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the HP 3000 community for 12 great years.  Your loyalty and evangelism for the platform have been extremely impactful and appreciated.   Although I’m sad to say goodbye to the many HP 3000 customers, partners and employees I’ve been privileged to work with, I am also excited to begin a new phase in my life.

It is important to convey that my departure will not impact the future of the HP 3000 platform.  HP will continue to provide high-performing, reliable, low-maintenance platforms ideal for supporting e-services and mission-critical Internet applications.   There will be no effect on the Commercial Systems Division other than a new General Manager at the helm.  Please be confident that business will continue as usual.

I also would like to take this time to announce we have selected Winston Prather to move into my position as General Manager.  Winston's new role is effective immediately.  I will be available for the next few months to ensure a smooth transition.  Winston has a long history with CSY and we are both excited and confident in his abilities to lead the HP 3000 into the next millennium.

Regards,

Harry Sterling
General Manager, Commercial Systems Division

Prather to succeed Sterling as CSY general manager

After an intensive selection process, we are pleased to announce Winston Prather has been chosen to succeed Harry Sterling as General Manager of the Commercial Systems Division.

Winston has been with Hewlett-Packard since 1985.  In his current role as CSY’s manager of research and development, Winston is responsible for all R&D activities associated with the HP 3000, including the Cupertino, CA and Bangalore, India facilities.

Initially hired at HP as a support engineer, Winston has held various engineering and management positions related to the HP 3000, culminating in his current position as manager of R&D.  Prior to joining at HP, Winston held computing related consulting positions with a large U.S. defense company, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at the University of Maryland.
