Support status of Java
Java is part of the MPE Fundamental Operating Software (FOS) on
MPE/iX Release 6.0 and later. On the MPE/iX 5.5 and 5.0 releases,
Java is available as freeware, without support

... well, there probably are some
Java-related MPE patches
To run Java on MPE/iX most effectively, you'll want the following
patches:
All MPE 5.0 users will require patch MPEHX70 that adds
support for dependent libraries to MPE/iX 5.0
If you are on MPE 5.5 and interested in using the Java Inner Classes feature,
you'll require patches MPEKX40B and PX2JXQ2. These
patches relax MPE's file naming restrictions to allow POSIX
filenames to include some additional characters, notably the
dollar sign ($) which is used as part of the class file name for
inner classes. These patches are incorporated into MPE/iX 6.0
It has been reported that patch LBCJXT6 is required for some versions
of MPE/iX (5.5 Powerpatch 6 needs the patch; I don't have info about
any other releases). The symptom is 'UNRESOLVED EXTERNALS' being
reported when trying to run Java.
Although unrelated to Java per se, all users of the POSIX hierarchical
file system on MPE 5.5 Powerpatch 4 or later will want patch MPEKXL0A,
which fixes a problem introduced in patch MPEJXV9B in which doing a recursive
rm on directories leaves the access count non-zero, causing the rm or rmdir
to fail with 'permission denied'.
